Books for Beginner Tarot Readers

When I started reading tarot there was little to no books available. This is in part due to the the superstitions passed down for generations discussed in my previous blog Tarot Superstitions. As the modern world expands and the people within it become more open minded, the collective information of tarot readers has been provided in various forms of publications. Depending on your preference, you can now find printed books, online articles, or even ebooks that can help guide you with your tarot learning.

Within the last five years, the availability of tarot resources are so bountiful, it’s almost overwhelming. Unfortunately, this intense amount of information and readily available resources are not always worth the dime they cost. So, how do you know which books you should invest both your time and money into?

  1. Truly Easy Tarot: Simple Readings and Practical Teachings by Mantis

    • This book is amazing for beginners!! I received this book as a gift from a close friend after telling her that one of my favorite tarot YouTubers recommended it. Even as an experienced reader, I appreciated the provided interpretation the author presents on each card. In this book you receive not only the keywords in both the upright and reversal positions, you also receive a concise explanation for potential scenarios that the card may represent in your tarot readings. For this reason, I have placed this book as my #1 book on the list.

  2. In Focus Tarot: Your Personal Guide by Steven Brights

    • This book is better for an intermediate or even experienced tarot reader as it presents more information that could be overwhelming to a novice reader. Similarly to the previous book, this book has the keywords, situational descriptions, but also provides a personification behind each card. If you have ever tried to read tarot then you are familiar with the challenge that court cards present to new and intermediate readers. This book helps provide the information that unlocks your intuition and understand of these challenging cards.

  3. Love Tarot for Beginners: Romantic Interpretations for Every Card in the Tarot Deck by Jhone Daniels

    • This book benefits those who enjoy or are interested in reading tarot cards for others. Many people who are interested in tarot readings ask questions about love, relationships, potential partners, or the hidden interests of partners. This book helps provide context for every tarot cards when it comes to love.

  4. Fearless Tarot by Elliot Adam

    • When asked what the scariest cards within a tarot deck, a typical person would probably list the Devil or 10 of Swords. People will correlate fear with these cards based off the dark imagery. Fearless Tarot by Elliot Adam helps novice and advance tarot readers look at the cards people usually fear in a different way. I genuinely loved this book as it helped me as a reader find positive, even in the darkest of places.

While these are great starter books, there is a plethora of books out there now. I recommend exploring your local book store, see what other books you can find.

Let me know in the comments if you have any spiritual book recommendations or if you want to see a specific concept come up in this blog!
