10 Ways to get into the Spooky Spirit

For the last three months I’ve had trouble maintaining my normal interests. My stress level has been through the roof, which has caused me to ignore many of my normal interests. I have this issue where I start for feel guilty for not doing the things I should be doing, so I don’t allow myself to do the things I enjoy. I realized we are over halfway through the month of October and I haven’t had the energy or motivation to enjoy this years Spooky Season. I realized I have been unintentionally punishing myself and causing greater burnout, so I decided to make a list of ways to get into the Spooky Season without the pressure of obligation.

Here are 10 ways to get into the Spooky Spirit:

  1. Watch any and every spooky themed movie without feeling guilty.

—It’s ok to sit down and just watch something without having to fold laundry or organize xyz…

  2. Go to a pumpkin patch.

—Make a plan to go with a friend, family member, or your special someone. Buy a pumpkin, even if you aren’t going to carve it! No one said it has to be carved or painted.

  3. Speaking of decor… Buy or make something new.

—Now I’m not saying go crazy… There is no rule that you need an exorbitant amount of Halloween decor in or outside of your house. However, have fun with it!

  4. Purchase or create a costume for your pet.

—Now that we have Slayer and Havok, I have been trying to think of a theme for the both of them.

  5. Make a cozy meal

—It’s chili and soup time 😋 Why not try a new recipe? This is the best time of year to utilize your crockpot. I am all for a dump and go recipe.

  6. Create some form of pumpkin art!

—I recently have gotten into watercolor painting. I am literally terrible at it but I’m having fun with it. It isn’t about making the perfect picture.

  7. Have a bonfire

—If you are really trying to embrace the spooky spirit, then a bonfire with smores is the way to go. If you ask me,,.there is nothing like some good ol’ ghost stories and a bonfire.

  8. Fill a serving bowl with candy or apples!

—An effective decor that also doubles as something tastey that you can enjoy. Who doesn’t love a good apple or candy bowl?

  9. Go on an adventure and investigate the local lore around your area.

—I am a native Virginian and there is an abundance of spooky lore and haunted buildings in this area. Take sometime to figure out if there is anything exciting to do in your area! If haunted buildings aren’t your thing, you can still go to a museum or hiking trail with informational posts!

  10. Play spooky games!

—Have you heard of Booooop? It is a spooky little strategy game where you are constantly trying to “Boop” off your opponents cats from the bed. They recently came out with a new spooky version where there is a ghost cat. I highly recommend checking it out.

It might be late in the spooky season, but that doesn’t mean it is too late to get into the spirit! Don’t let your anxieties of the past or future force you to not enjoy the present moment. If you don’t like that you haven’t been able to enjoy the spooky season, then change your mindset and start enjoying it! It isn’t too late to watch some creepy movies and enjoy the crisp air of nature.
