5 Tips to Add Meditation into Your Life

Lately I have been working on maintaining my stress levels. I know that most of my stress is caused by anxiety and depression, which is a chemical imbalance… However, I can’t help but recognize that sometimes I get stuck in my anxious fixation. I researched and found that anxiety attacks and emotions only last past thirty minutes if you do not allow yourself to work through those emotions. If you are like me and have trouble with fixating on the issue, then you will be stuck in those negative emotions. I have recently made a large change where I am trying to integrate meditation into myself to relieve myself of the chemical addiction of stress. After reading almost half of Becoming Supernatural by Dr. Joe Dispenza, I have learned to see emotions in a different way. With this knowledge, I have been working on integrating meditation into my daily routine to try and help ground myself when I recognize my fixations.

Meditation is one of the more widely known activities recognized for stress release. While this is not the only tool to decrease stress, it is a great one that assists with releasing your stress. How can you add meditation into your daily life?

  • Shower & bath time.

    • Play some music and allow yourself to be mindful towards all of your senses. Meditations is about living in the present moment. Allow yourself to think about the water and how it works to clean your body. Think of the ways you appreciate your health and wellness in that moment.

  • Get off of social media.

    • How can you live in the present moment if you are too busy comparing your life to the life of another? Social media is a great way to network with family, friends, clients, and other new people. While it does have its easily recognizable benefits, there are many negatives that come from it. Social Media creates a mindless time consuming activity, that can cause a lot of strife in one’s self-esteem if they are not in the right mindset. Set some time to step away from your social media and appreciate the life around you.

  • When you are eating.

    • I am majorly guilty of not being present in the moment when I eat. It is not uncommon to find me having conversation, watching movies, or even reading while I enjoy my food. I have lately been trying to be mindful when consuming my daily meals, which include turning off my electronics and focusing on the food. Take time to appreciate the flavors, the type, and texture of the food.

  • During your daily commute.

    • Depending on your daily commute, you can enjoy guided meditation podcasts, youtube videos, or even ambiance music that allows your mind clarity and focus. It is imperative to be careful to not lose focus on driving when conducting meditation in this setting. Be cautious with your commute.

  • Meditate right before you go to bed or right when you are falling asleep.

    • This is my favorite time to meditate. I use to have a terrible time falling asleep because I thought of every task, every list, and every need that I didn’t have. I recognized that thinking of my deficits were preventing me from falling asleep, as well as the quality of my sleep. Now I try to meditate every night, especially when I am feeling anxious or overwhelmed. With every negative thought I recognize me having, I redirect my thought process to things I am grateful for instead.
