How to Prepare for a Tarot Reading

If you are new to tarot readings and are unsure of how everything works, it can be a daunting task to mentally prepare yourself for your first experience.

Here is some tips and tricks to get you in the right mindset:

  1. Find a reader that you connect with the best! (Check out my blog post on how to pick a reader you trust) Most modern tarot readers have a social media platform such as tiktok, instagram, facebook page, youtube, or website you can investigate. Everyone gives off a different vibration, find someone whose vibe meshes with yours.

  2. Know what you are looking to gain from the reading. If you are just there for the experience with no expectations, you might not get your money’s worth. Think of what guidance you want out of the reading. Are you looking to work on some of the trauma from your past? Do you want to understand a friend or lover better? Is there someone who has crossed over that you would like to hear from?

  3. Think of clear questions to ask your tarot reader. As discussed in my previous blog, Best Questions For Your Tarot Reader, you do not have to go into a reading with questions. However, it can be useful for both you and your reader to establish clear expectations on what you seek guidance on.

  4. Ask your spirit guides for guidance. If you are looking for clarity or even to have a conversation with a specific person, ask them to bring up something or answer something before your reading. Have a conversation with your guides and let them know what you are looking for out of this experience. Say the words out loud. There are power in words.

  5. Clear your mind as best you can before the reading. Your energy is very dependant on your mindset. The more cluttered your mind is, the more cluttered your energy will be. Try meditating to open your mind and reset your energy to get the most out of your tarot reading.

Remember: Tarot is not necessarily about reading fortunes. Do not go in with the mindset that a reader is going to tell you the exact future. Tarot is moreso about guidance, becoming one with your higher self, and understanding your life path.
