5 Ways to Cleanse Divination Tools

In our last blog Evaluation of Secondhand Divination Tools, we investigated the advantages and disadvantages behind using used divination tools. As a tarot reader, I know that I constantly hear so many conflicting views when it comes to used tarot decks. While some people are fearful of used tarot decks, other readers may prefer the use of used tarot decks. The common denominator between the two comes down to energy. If you are looking to work with divination tools, you need to learn about energy and your understanding of energy. Do you use your empathic abilities to help you with your readings or do these energies overwhelm you? If you feel overwhelmed by the energies of others, taking the time to cleanse your tools will help prevent any overwhelmed feelings.

Here are 5 ways you can cleanse your tarot deck:

1. Shuffling & Reorganizing the Deck

   Shuffling is the simplest way to cleanse your divination deck. When you shuffle a deck, you are redistributing the energies within the deck. If you feel that you need additional cleansing, you can take the time to reorder the divination deck based on chronological order of the cards. For tarot cards, I recommend ascending order for the major arcana, then the suits in lowest to highest order. I find that this helps reset the energy of the deck.

2. Selenite Crystals

   It wasn't until recent years that I started recognizing the benefits behind crystals. If you are an advocate of crystals, then you are aware of the energy the crystals promote and cleanse. Selenite is known for its purifying properties. This crystal is widely recognized for its cleansing nature. This makes it the perfect tool for cleansing divination tools. Selenite comes in many forms such as bars, slates, plates, tumbled, and raw crystal forms.

3. Smoke

   For centuries, many cultures find smoke to be the most cleansing element. Depending on your preference, there are different avenues you can take when using smoke as a cleansing tool. Use a sound that you feel cleanse and calm your energy. This is the sound that will help cleanse your tools.

In anything that you do in life, intention is key. When enacting any of these cleansing techniques, focus on the intention behind your actions. Your intentions will shape the success of any of these activities. You must be in the right frame of mind.
