10 Spiritual Grounding Activities for Colder Weather

It’s that time of year in Virginia where the winter weather gets the best of us. Snow, ice, and other freezing conditions create the challenging atmosphere that prevent people from enjoying the great outdoors. Unfortunately, this cold weather keeps people inside, which significantly disrupts their energy. Because humans are animal in nature, they must take advantage of the energetic reset that nature can provide. As mentioned in our previous blog, Spiritual Grounding: How does it work?, spiritual grounding helps balance chaotic energy. Spiritual grounding helps with anxious or depressive thoughts and feelings. However, when people think about connecting with nature, they generally think about soaking up the sun or standing barefoot in the grass. But how do you connect with nature in the cooler weather?

Here are 10 ways to spiritually ground during the chilliest time of the year!

  1. Drinking a warm beverage outside

Whether you enjoy coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or apple cider. When there is a chill in the air, a nice warm beverage will hit the spot. Take your morning drink outside and be mindful of the contrast between the warmth of your drink and the frigidity of the air. Appreciate the crisp weather and allow the variations to help you align your body with your mind.

  2. Ice skating

Exercising is a great way to release negative energy from your body. Ice skating is a great activity that allows you to feel weightless, while also appreciating the elements around you. Be mindful of the movements your body makes during this venture. Allow the patterns of this activity to help navigate a meditation that gets your mind of your everyday stress.

  3. Reading a book with a cozy blanket.

Recently I have experience rekindling in my passion for reading. Throughout my life I have been an avid reader, but last year I experienced stress and turmoil like never before. The responsibilities in my life overwhelmed me and I forgot how to take the time to enjoy the little things. Reading is one of the best activities that you can use to exercise your brain pathways. So of course taking the time to read outside and enjoy the elements, perhaps next to a fire or with a cozy blanket is one of the best things you can do to reset and balance your energy.

  4. Skiing, sledding, and snowboarding

Once again, moving your body is important. Any activity that promote your body to regulate breathing and intake more oxygen is going to be good for the soul. Each of these activities should be enjoyed less for their competitive nature and more for the feeling they provide. That feeling of freedom and excitement is what helps adjust your energy.

  5. Landscape photography

No one can convince me otherwise, nature is the most beautiful that we humans may witness in our life. just being in nature reestablishes our energetic balance. The various plants or animals sounds provide calming frequencies that create an internal harmony within your spirit.

  6. Roasting marshmallows

Each element has various impacts on your spirit. Fire will provide more than a comforting feeling when you are near it. Fire promotes determination, ambition, strength and courage. Plus, the yummy goodness of a roasted marshmallow make being out in the chill element all the more worth it!

  7. Make bird feeders, animal shelters, or other critter helpers

Creating bird feeders or making outside shelters for stray animals helps the creatures around you survive the harshest conditions. Putting this positive energy out into the world attracts positive energy back to you. I am a strong believer that you get out of like what you put into life. I believe in helping those in need, but not because one day you might be the person that needs help. The actions you take in life help determine your spiritual energy at that time.

  8. Stargaze with a loved one

Depending on where you live, this activity might be a challenge due to light pollution. Take the time to find an ideal location to appreciate the cosmos above. Because of human development, we forget the beauty around us. When we take the time to look up, one is reminded of the vastness the universe provides. This realization will establish symmetry in the world around you, as well as the world beyond.

  9. Building snow sculptures

Instead of staying inside and mindlessly scrolling through tiktok, you could be outside creating something! Building snow sculptures of someone you know or a mythical creature can help get your mind off the daily stressors of your life. This lighthearted activity can be however creative or exciting you make it.

  10. Scavenger hunt for local animal tracks

Scavenger hunting for animal tracks is an innovative way to get your family and friends outside for a playful activity. Regardless of the temperature, looking for animal tracks requires your full intention. If you are trying to look for specific footprints or other imprints left by your local fauna, then you are going to no longer have the time for anxiety. As a friend or family member to join in on the fun!

Why should we even make the effort?

One of the most challenging things that a person can do is slow down to appreciate the world around you. Even in the darkest of times, we have to push through to do what is best for both our physical, mental, and spiritual health. When it is the hardest to do the thing that are good for us, that is when we need it the most. This effort will help balance their life and provide the necessary reset we all need. The key to spiritual grounding lies with the mindset you have with each activity. While every feeling has its time and place and we should not ignore the negative energy, we must make sure that we do not stew in it. If we allow ourselves to become fixated on our anxieties or our depressive thoughts, we will lose sight of the present life around us. I hope someone reads this blog and decides to take the time to try some of these activities.
